ID Series Steals Network Ratings Record

'Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets' draws 1.4 million viewers

Investigative Discovery's new docu-series Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets is the latest show to set a viewership record for the surging basic cable network.

The series, which tells stories of murder cases from the perspective of the victim, beat out the 936,000 viewers generated by Sunday's (Jan. 9) season premiere of news magazine show On The Case With Paula Zahn. Previous to that, the record was held by ID's Nightmare Next Door, which drew 778,000 viewers last Thursday (Jan. 6), said network officials.

Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets also set network records in household ratings (1.61 rating), adults 25-54 (701,000) and women 25-54 (463,000).

Investigative Discovery posted the biggest year-to-year primetime audience increase among all basic cable networks in 2010, boosting its prime time audience by 65% to 369,000 viewers, according to Nielsen.

Prison Wives wrapped at the end of last year. Hit the airwaves just the other week, on Valentine's day. Look for it on Discovery ID.

Now, I'm onto another series for the same network. A new 12 by 30 series featuring spouses blindsided by love. Not prison couples. But everyday folks who find out that the love of their life has been keeping a secret.

Two shoots down. One to go. My first episode for the upcoming Discovery ID series Prison Wives is almost complete. Now, I'm about to tackle the script for my second episode. We spent ten days in Oregon to get the story. The new hour-long series will air either later this year or the beginning of 2010.

Heading back down to Florida for my first shoot for the series Prison Wives. The upcoming 1-hour documentary series will air on Discovery ID sometime next year.

Networking in D.C.

The move is over. Thank goodness. While I do miss the Florida weather I am getting used to wearing a parka again. Okay, who am I kidding? I've never liked looking stuffing myself into sweaters and coats I'd much rather be in tank top, shorts and flip flops. But despite the blistering cold I am quickly settling back into life up North.

Now that I'm back in the D.C. area I will be taking participating in AWRT again. Since the Miami area did not have a chapter I had to step back from the group for a while. But thankfully the D.C. chapter is up and running. And while I am now a member of another chapter I will still stay in touch with my former members in the Philadelphia Tri-State Chapter.

I have also joined Women in Film and Video of Washington D.C.

Airdates, Kudos and Other Good Stuff

“When is the show going to air?” That’s the million dollar question every producer is asked during a shoot. Sometimes you know the answer but most of the time you don’t. Many production companies will call the story particpant later with an airdate but not all. So thanks to this handy new blog I am going to keep a running tally of airdates, kudos and other good stuff.

Here’s the scoop:

TRAVEL CHANNEL“America the Wright Way” (Miami Episode): This aired late last year and may be seen in repeats. Kudos to the guys at Roast Beef Productions in London. I served as the local producer and Mike Lerner was the head producer. Host Ian Wright was awesome. Yes, he sure sounds like he’s the voice behind the famous Geco lizard but he’s not. This 1-hour episode was made possible by loads of folks in South Miami. A special shout out to the undefeated South Miami Grey Ghosts football team: the kids, coaches and parents.

TRU TV (formerly Court TV):“Forensic Files” (Ginger Hayes Case): Tentatively scheduled to air January 2nd 2009. Yes, it takes a while for Forensic Files episodes to make it to air but each case is well worth the wait. An enormous thank you to the Hayes family and NC law enforcement officials. This episode was shot by Ken Hackney owner of Virtual Image Productions. Associate producer Erin Wilt of Medstar Television was a huge help putting this episode together. Due to loads of restrictions by the Palm Beach Film Commission this was not an easy shoot.
“Forensic Files” (Dawnia Hope DaCosta Case:) No airdate yet. Possibly sometime in late winter or early spring 2009. A heartfelt thank you to Dawnia’s mom and sister and all Broward County, FL officials. This episode was shot by Brian Noreika of Dancing Skeleton Productions. Associate Producer Erin Wilt produced this episode as well.
